Only Tucker holds the clues that can solve this deadly mystery.īecause Pemberwick is only the first stop. He tasted the Ruby-and experienced the powers it gave him-for himself. They call themselves SYLO and they are a secret branch of the U.S. The relationships don't go beyond kissing.Parachuting out of military helicopters to invade Tucker Pierce’s idyllic hometown on Pemberwick Island, Maine. "SYLO" has some mild language and some violence. ![]() Readers who become angry when a story doesn't actually end and leaves more unanswered questions than answers may want to wait until all three books come out before starting this one. Those who liked the Maze Runner series or who just like a fast-paced exciting young-adult mystery novel will probably like this book. In short, he's taken the classic whodunnit, told it through the voice of a 14-year-old and expanded it to three books but rather than making the reader ask "who did it?" he forces the reader to ask "what in the world is going on?" … My challenge to readers is to recognize these clues and piece them together, along with Tucker, to try to get to the ultimate truth." "Readers should be aware that there are plenty of clues scattered throughout 'SYLO' that point to the larger story and the truth about what is actually happening. With this first book of a planned three-book series, MacHale issues a challenge to his readers. With the love triangle complete and the mysterious and hostile military law ruling the residents of Pemberwick, Tucker and his best friend Quinn are thrown into the roles of investigator, spy, rescuer and escape artist all in the course of just a few days. military called SYLO, Tucker's peaceful life on Pemberwick Island quickly erupts into an explosion of intrigue, lies and suspicion that veers far away from normalcy.īut even amid all the bizarre events that rudely intrude on Tucker's life, he manages to find himself facing the same issues any other 14-year-old might face: how to talk to, flirt with and attract girls - two in particular, Tori and Olivia. Between the strange man that tries to sell Tucker a new performance-enhancing drug, the several unexplainable deaths of islanders and the sudden and the strange government takeover of the island by a branch of the U.S. Through the eyes, ears and voice of Tucker Pierce, a 14-year-old freshman football player, MacHale plots a complicated story set on tiny Pemberwick Island off the coast of Maine in present day America. MacHale, who penned the Pendragon series, begins another book series with the young adult novel "SYLO." The Canarsie-Bred Rapper Shares a New Collection Of Charming and Energetic Brooklyn Drill Heaters ![]() Quiplash had a very active three-year run. A year later, Quiplash 2 came out as a part of Jackbox Party Pack 3. It was the result of a 2015 Kickstarter, though about a year after its launch, Quiplash XL came out as a part of Jackbox Party Pack 2. Unlike Fibbage XL, Quiplash debuted as a standalone game. Though if you want to just keep it simple and only play one game, Fibbage XL is there for you. If you want Fibbage, get Jackbox Party Pack 4. While Fibbage XL is a great game - assuredly the best part of the first Jackbox Party Pack - there are two versions of Fibbage that followed it that are better. Fibbage 3 is the pinnacle of the series, especially with the clever Fibbage: Enough About You bonus game as well. But here’s also the other thing with Fibbage: later packs have Fibbage 2 (in Jackbox Party Pack 2) and Fibbage 3 (in Jackbox Party Pack 4). If you desperately wanted the best of the first Jackbox Party Pack, you could just get Fibbage XL and Drawful 2 (which is available separately on Switch). Word Spud and Lie Swatter aren’t memorable. However, if I’m being brutally honest, Fibbage XL is like 50% of why the first pack is great. The new release is $9.99 while the original Jackbox Party Pack is $24.99. I’d venture to say that Fibbage and Quiplash are the best two games in the Jackbox Party Pack era, though they have multiple versions and sequels available.įibbage XL actually was a part of the original Jackbox Party Pack, so even if it is now a standalone release on Switch, it’s already available on the system. Then the answers are put head-to-head against other player’s responses to the same question. Quiplash lets three to eight players come up with amusing answers (or “quips”) to questions. Players get points for tricking players and also points for guessing the correct answer. All players have to come up with a believable lie to try to trick others to pick as the right answer. Anywhere from two to eight players can play and all are given a fun fact or weird bit of trivia with a word or phrase removed. Fibbage is a novel take on a trivia game, sort of. Regardless, the big question with these releases is should you buy them even when there are six other Jackbox Party Packs to choose from on Switch.īut first off, here’s a quick overview of why both games are a lot of fun. As someone who has been playing Jackbox Party Packs since day one, I always forget that some of these games have origins as standalone releases. It’s not that kind of stab.I was admittedly a little surprised when I saw Fibbage XL and Quiplash were coming to Nintendo Switch this week. We’re planning more and more of this in our future games, but for now, we hope our first stab at this feature in Quiplash is a successful first stab, without anyone getting hurt. It’s kind of an “enhanced spectator” role, if you will – you actually affect the outcome of the game. Sure, just watching our games can bring you plenty of laughs, but who wants to just watch when you can participate? That’s the idea behind the Audience. Our goal is to keep making party games that everyone – and maybe someday, literally everyone – can play simply by pulling out their phones. This is a big upgrade for us over our previous games, one of which (Lie Swatter) allowed up to 100 players in the same game. If you have a stream with thousands of viewers, they can all participate – up to 10,000, anyway. If you have a party of 10 people, 2 can be in the Audience, and then they can get in the next game, letting two players swap out to the Audience. Quiplash is played by 3-8 core players, and works with or without an Audience. ![]() “Oui Oui Land” or “Armpithairylvania”? That’s for the players, and Audience, to decide. The player whose answer receives the most votes, wins. Then, the other players AND THE AUDIENCE (if there is one) vote for their favorite answer. Quiplash pits two players’ answers to humorous prompts like “Another name for France” against each other. The Quiplash Audience actually affects the outcome of the game by voting, kind of like on a reality competition show on TV. ![]() Now, while an “audience” usually means a passive group of people who are just “watching,” in Quiplash, it’s different. So with Quiplash, we decided to try to embrace this phenomenon by introducing a new feature we call: the Audience. This has also allowed for a big explosion in streamed games, where people are joining streams of our games and actually participating from afar. While you fire up the game on your PS3 or PS4, players connect to the game using their phones, tablets, or any internet-connected device (even computers) by entering the unique game code into the “” web site. If you’re familiar with our recent games Fibbage and The Jackbox Party Pack, you’ll know that our games do not require controllers. ![]() If we increase the width size, a, the angle T at which the intensity first becomes zero decreases, resulting in a narrower central band. Note that the width of the central diffraction maximum is inversely proportional to the width of the slit. I will mention now that the intensity of light is proportional to the square of its amplitude. The first DIFFRACTION MINIMUM occurs at the angles given by sin T = l / a There are minor seconday bands on either side of the central maximum. Most of the light is concentrated in the broad CENTRAL DIFFRACTION MAXIMUM. The top part of the figure to the left is an imitation of a single slit diffraction pattern which may be observed on the screen (there would really be more blending between the bright and dark bands, see a real diffraction pattern at the top of this page).īelow the pattern is an intensity bar graph showing the intensity of the light in the diffraction pattern as a function of sin T. Let T represent the angle between the wave ray to a point on the screenĪnd the normal line between the slit and the screen. ![]() Let L represent the distance between the slit and the screen. When the light encounters the slit, the pattern of the resulting wave can be calculated by treating each point in the aperature as a point source from which new waves spread out. This is possible because the slit is narrow.Ĭonsider a slit of width a, light of wavelength l, and a smaller than l. The intensity at any point on the screen is independent of the angle made between the ray to the screen and the normal line between the slit and the screen (this angle is called T below).Cylindrical waves can be represented in 2D diagrams as cicular waves. The slit size is small, relative to the wavelength of light. Some assumptions must be made for this description of the single slit diffraction pattern: Light bends around obstacles like waves do, and it is this bending which causes the single slit diffraction pattern. Interference and Diffraction are the phenomena that distinguish waves from particles: waves interfere and diffract, particles do not. The key to understanding why light behaves like waves is in INTERFERENCE and DIFFRACTION. It wasn't until the 19th century that convincing evidence was found showing that light behaves like waves.īefore reading on, you may wish to review some wave terminology. Light is interesting and mysterious because it consists of both a beam of particles, and of waves in motion.Īll carriers of energy and momentum, such as light and electrons, propagate like a wave and exchange energy like a particle. ![]() Left: picture of a single slit diffraction pattern.
